week13

1. I think content really matters. Whenever writing the blog, I try my utmost to deliberate on the questions and offer some interesting or novel ideas. I also learn to use different angles to think on one issue and give diverse responses. Though the words amount of my blogs can usually reaches the words criteria, still, I think the length of the article is not that important. Instead, the most significant is that if we can get the full realization of the issues and give our perspectives through critical thinking and have some enlightenment from introspection and exploration.

2. I think, from 1 to 10, I can at least get 7 score on my blog. As I’ve mentioned in the question 1, I do a lot of effort on the thinking and writing part. Also, I think I do have learned something from each issue. However, on the vocabulary and writing form part, I think there are still lots of disadvantage to be improved. The ability of word choice and sentence arrangement should be enhanced.

3. As for my key pal’s part, I think I’ll give her 5 score. Although her responses are quite interesting and she also gives many personal experiences, she always procrastinates the works and then does the responses at once. As a result, I cannot see the feedback in time. It’s a little bit bothering.

week11

1. As far as I’m concerned, among these different kinds of activities, my favorite one is hand-on activity. I think I’m the” manual-typed” person. It means I prefer handwork activity to other types of activities such as reading or listening. Whenever I accomplish some works by hand, I will feel a sense of achievement. Put it in another way, I think manual work can easily trigger my imagination and motivation in order to enhance my performance.
In my opinion, the one I like the least is reading. We have already undergone the “reading” education for so many years and it always makes me think of exams. The truth is I don’t hate reading. It is the most pervasive way to gain knowledge and I’m fond of reading novel and other extra-curriculum materials. But I’m fed up with reading text books again and again, it makes me headache.

2. I have taken a course called “the development of the imagination”. Our professor will offer every group different techniques and approaches of the theories which can improve our imagination. Next, every group must follow those approaches and create a series of activities. Through playing games and making some products or performances, students can learn different techniques to strengthen our imagination.

3. Whenever encountering some difficult knowledge that I can not easily figure out, I will carefully read it first and then discuss with my classmates or partners. I think discussion is really a good way to help people overcome some difficulties whether they are academic problems or not. Through the process of discussing, we can learn many experiences and absorb novel opinions. I think that’s also the reason why the studying groups are so popular nowadays. Sharing and exchanging ideas can broaden our vision and help us fix some problems.

4. I think, obviously, I’m “kinesthetic learner”. Namely, I usually do better performance through touching things. Through “hands-on” experiences, such as making manual works or taking notes, I can learn things faster and also easier. Although I have a clear preference for one particular learning type, I still need to combine other learning forms as assistances.

week10

Compare among various viewpoints, writing styles, communication styles, interaction, and interesting insights between other groups and yours. Discuss with your partner through blog about your pair work quality and answer the following questions.
Question 1: From 1~10 (with 10 as the highest score), how well are you two doing? Please grade yourselves and give a suggestive score.
Question 2: How and why did you two decide the score?
Question 3: What kind of improvement are you two making in the remaining weeks of the semester?
1. As for my own part, I’ll give our blog 7 point.
2. I think both of us have done great effort on these works so far. Through the discussion, we do gained lots of new ideas from each other. Regarding to my own writing, I always try my best to avoid some clichés and meaningless remarks. Also, I do my utmost to use the right grammar and some new vocabularies. I’m used to do the judgment from objective point of view and give my own perspective whenever I have special perception on the topics. However, I think that I offer too few personal experiences and my thoughts are not profound enough.
3. Other than give some individual experiences, I think I should enhance my critical thinking ability and words choosing. By reading and experiencing more, I can gradually improve my righting skills and make judgments more precisely.

week7

Q1:I think that is truth. On the whole, the youngster in this generation, indeed, is inferior to the previous generation. But I think, just like the writer of this article said, 草莓族exist in every generation and situation. However, in this generation, youngsters lose their motivation to strive for their future career since the global recession, the disappointing education system and the strong desire of material life. When the graduators realize that they can not find jobs or a job with high payment, they may be unconfident to themselves and the future. The politicians manipulate the whole educational trend and corrupt the education system. When people do not take diploma seriously, students will lose their momentum to improve themselves. So I think the environment and time background take important role behind this kind of stigma.
Q2:I don’t think those descriptions match my self-identity and realization. Those critics, including without enough compressive resistance stability and perseverance, are because of insufficient working experiences. It can be well-trained after a period working time. Also I think youngster in this generation seems to be more creative and open-minded under the influence of well-developed internet and the comprehensive knowledge resources. They can use more tool than the people in old generation to express themselves and gain knowledge. However, I think youngster in this generation is lacking of moral principles such as respect others and be punctuate. In my opinion, the attitude and how serious we take toward our work are more important than capacity. Learning to keep our promises and being responsible to what we said are always above a perfect diploma.

week6

1. People hate making mistakes and try their best to avoid it. So do I. Usually, when I make mistakes, I will feel frustrated and helpless. Those setbacks often depressed me for a while. However, eventually, I will tell myself that I must find some way to break the deadlock. During the process of figuring out the problems, I will obtain quite a few experiences and knowledge. Also, I can find out my weaknesses and improve them.
2. To me, mistakes just like the symptoms of illness. They can reflect my lack of ability and the disadvantages mine works just like the symptoms can reflect the ill of our bodies. Through making mistakes, we can understand ourselves better and suit the remedy to the case.
3. After listening to Prof. Pausch’s speech, I got some different views when we deal with those so called” setback” and “difficulty”. The idea which impressed me most is that the brick walls are there for a reason: they let us prove how badly we want things. The walls exist for those who are not want things badly enough. The outlook did broaden my mind. From now on, whenever I meet some frustration, I can be faithful to myself and faced with problems confidently.

week5

1. The picture is about the sequences and the methods of group learning. First of all, they start with posing questions. And then they have some brainstorm and peer discussion. Finally, they make conclusion and maybe they will do further presentation. The feedback of their performance can be the points of their introspection and the motivation of making improvement.
2. My favorite part of collaborative learning is” generating multiple perspectives”. Through this process, many innovative ideas will be inspired and it can make the group member closer. While expressing our own thoughts, we can feel a sense of ac achievement. At the same time, we can broaden our mind through learning and accepting other’s opinions.
3. I think the most difficult part of group learning is “making informed decision.” It’s hard for all the group members being in tune with one another since not everyone is tolerant enough. When everyone all want to have their idea be adopted, there is a hard time to make conclusion. Especially, some group members tend to be dominative and then control the whole group. Thus, some thoughts may be buried.
4. When I was in senior high school, we have a team for a presentation about classical Chinese literature. During the process of brainstorming and concluding, we did meet a lot of difficulties and have some quarrels. However, we learned from these discord and the group members’ opinions became my experiences.

week4

Q1:
No, I’m not. Although blog, msn, and internet prevail over our generation, we still fail to combine those tools with our academic study. Mostly, I’ll use internet to find some information and knowledge. However, it’s just a unilateral searching but the interaction with other information providers or other learners. Besides, we are accustomed to paper reading material since we are little. It’s hard for Chinese students, at least for me to get use to this kind of learning method.

Q2:
“Net worked students” mean students who can share information and knowledge through internet and much interactive software. For example, students use blog to show their academic performance and learning experience and also find some useful expertise and information from other’s blog. They can even listen to some of the best professors’ lectures through internet. Through using interactive sharing tools or platforms, students’ own learning net can be organized. Students can easily get information from it.
I think it’s a great change not only to the school students but to the whole generation. Different opinions and thoughts can be respected and learners can have diverse access to the knowledge and the exchange of information can be more frequently. Apart from getting useful knowledge, students can also improve their critical thinking ability through the process of interacting with other learners. On the contrary, it’s also a dangerous change because students may be misled when they are lacking of judgment.

week3

The tremendous change of Britney Spears may terrify many of her fans and the public, but I think it’s not totally her fault. Of course she should never transform her emptiness and painfulness into drugs and alcohol abuse. However, when she became a superstar, she was still very young and innocent. She tasted the sweetness of success first rather than realize the cruelty of the reality. As a celebrity who became successful in her early age, she was protected so well that she couldn’t face difficulties and frustration on her own. I think that’s the major reason of the overwhelming change after her divorce. Besides, those drugs and alcohol also amplified her painfulness and made her be obsessed with the vicious circle. Although the alcohol and depression did pose a threat to her, her ignorance and innocence are the main reason of her weakness.

If I were her best friend or family, I thought I couldn’t make the judgment to the whole thing objectively and I would put all the blame on her ex-husband, Kevin. Also, if I were her friend or family, I would feel much more helpless because I knew no one can help her but herself.

week2

Actually, yes, I did have this kind of experience. When I was little, my mother wanted me to go to piano class in that learning piano and becoming a pianist is her life span dream. I was too ignorant and innocent at that time and didn’t know where my real interest is therefore I just agreed to take this class and tried to fulfill my mother’s great ambition. Although I felt quite hard when I was practicing the fingering, however, I think it worth because my painstaking effort did help me a lot when I decided to turn to my real interest, guitar and singing.
Now I recall all of this experience, though it’s not from my will at first, but I still glad that I accepted my mother’s suggestion without hesitation. After all, it really established a good sense and foundation of music for me. So I think if we can view things with different angel, we may find that it’s actually beneficial to us.

week1 Q2

Do you believe everything people tell you? Why or why not?
For instance, when your friend tells you that working as a part-time waiter in a fancy restaurant will get you a lot of money, how would you respond?

No, I will choose the message that I think is reasonable enough or find out the evident before I believe people’s words. Because people tend to be fuelled by public opinion and they will easily lose their own thoughts under the influence of media or biased remark. Thus, establishing independent thinking ability and cultivating the sensitivity to diverse opinions are both important capacity that we have to be equipped with when we are judging things.
If my friend tells me that kind of thing, I would say, “Though earning money is the main purpose of taking part-time, I still want to learn some useful knowledge and make a good use of my profession rather than selling my labor or even my body.”
